"But as for me, I am filled with power, with the spirit of the LORD” (Micah 3:8)

Speaker: Dr. Cathy Cory

2:00 - 3:30 p.m.

To Register, email:  associationofpastoralministers@gmail.com

Under the umbrella of APM’s larger theme this year, “The Spirit Breathes Over the Chaos” this presentation will focus on the prophets of old and the ways in which their ministry was inspired by the Holy Spirit. Admittedly, there are few explicit references to the Holy Spirit in the books of the prophets. However, as we dig deeply into the biblical references that we do have, we will discover the immense power of the Holy Spirit to speak truth to God’s people in difficult times, even when the prophet resists or is fearful. We will also consider what it means to be a prophetic voice in the church and in the world today. What insights might we glean from these prophets of old to help us assume our role as authentic prophets who allow the Spirit to breathe through us and “renew the face of the earth” (Psa 104:30).

"Behold, I Make All Things New":  Seeking the Holy Spirit in Times of Tension and Loss

Speaker: Anne Weyandt, J.D., Ed.D.

2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

To Register, email:  associationofpastoralministers@gmail.com

The Nicene Creed says in part, “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life … who has spoken through the prophets.”  By virtue of our baptism we are all called to be prophets.  Prophetic imagination and activity cannot remain passive; the Spirit is still speaking to us in this time, demanding that we reflect and act with purpose.  How is the Spirit challenging us to address the chaos caused by various “isms” (sexism, racism, clericalism, feminism) in families, in the church and in the world.
