Q: How is the training accomplished?
A: MVA training occurs on two levels:
a)APM offers training for paid or unpaid staff or volunteers who are in charge of or coordinate ministries that serve the vulnerable adult population. APM refers to this training as a "train the trainers" model. A certificate of completion is handed out.
b)Those who have completed the APM Trainer's course will be able to return to their parishes or organizations to train lay ministers or other volunteers who come in contact with vulnerable adults through their particular ministry or job description.

Q: What materials are provided?
A: Those who attend the Trainer's workshop receive: a MVA trainer's manual; a Power Point CD training presentation; a sample folder for volunteers who will be trained.

Q: What materials may be copied and handed out?
A: The materials in the SAMPLE folder may be copied and handed out to the volunteers receiving training. Masters for copying may be found in the "Masters I and Masters II" section of the Trainer's manual. These materials include an incident reporting form, a certificate of completion of the training, resource materials, case studies for theological reflection and pages for following the Power Point presentation. The other portions of the Trainer's manual and the Power Point CD may not be reproduced because they are copyrighted.

Q: What about updating resource materials?
A: Updating of the resource materials is the Trainer's responsibility. Most of the resource pages are in the public domain and have a website address listed; usually at the bottom of the page.

Q: How do I find an APM - certified MVA Trainer?
A: APM will maintain two lists of MVA Trainers.
 a) APM certified MVA Trainers who would like to offer their services to parishes or organizations who do not have an MVA Trainer.
 b) APM certified MVA Trainers interested in conducting the APM Trainer's workshop. (Some additional training may be required.)
If you are interested please contact Mary Ann Kelly-Wright, APM Board Chairperson for Ministry to Vulnerable Adults.

Q: How often will the Trainer's workshop be offered by APM?
A: Currently we are offering the Trainer's workshop two or three times a year.

Q: How will I know when the next Trainer's workshop is offered?
A: Contact the MVA Chairperson to be placed on "want-to-take MVA Trainer's workshop" list. You will be notified when the next workshop is scheduled. The date and registration information also will be posted on our website; www.apmspm.org

Q: Is the MVA training part of the Archdiocese VIRTUS program?
A: No. APM's Ministry to Vulnerable Adult training is separate from the Archdiocese mandated VIRTUS program. MVA is NOT required by APM or the Archdiocese.
We believe it is a complementary program. We are grateful for the support we have received from the Archdiocese. Check with your own parish or organization regarding the VIRTUS requirements.

Q: I have completed the Trainer's workshop for my community. Can I offer my services to other parishes or organization? May I charge a fee or accept remuneration?
A: Yes, if you have completed the Trainer's workshop you may offer to train staff or volunteers at other parishes or organizations. APM makes no recommendation for offering or accepting monetary compensation. Whatever agreement you have with another parish or organization is between you and the other parish or organization.
Keep in mind printing costs will be incurred for making copies of the volunteer training folder and purchasing the folders. You or the training site host will have to pay for those items. Please refer to #3 for what may and may not be copied.

Q: What if I have additional questions, now or later?
A: Mary Ann Kelly-Wright is the APM Board Chairperson for Ministry to Vulnerable Adults. You can contact her by e-mail at mva@apmspm.org
